As you may have read in Our History section of this blog, Spornette was started by my grandfather, Walter Sporn. That makes us a third generation family run business, a rarity in today’s business world. A fact that makes us proud of our past and excited about our future. There are brushes that we carry that have been around since the beginning, and there are brushes that have changed as the needs of our customers have changed.
The beauty industry isn’t the only field that has second or third generations carrying on the family name. I just read this Beauty LaunchPad magazine article, where stylist Aviva Perea said, “My new favorite discovery is Spornette Little Wonder #111 which is a hybrid miracle brush that’s perfect for teasing & smoothing.”
She worked on actress, Zoey Deutch, who is also carrying on her family’s tradition. Look closely at the picture, can you tell which 80′s actress is her mother?
If you guessed actress Lea Thompson (Back to the Future, Some Kind of Wonderful, Caroline in the City) you’d be right!
As you might have heard, the newest member of the Spornette family is the Ion Fusion Collection. When a new line of brushes leaves Spornette warehouse and makes it way to salons and supply centers we have high hopes that our customers will try it and of course like it. Imagine how excited we get when a beauty blogger, such as Blushing Basics, showcases our newbie on their front page!! Check out how awesome the Ion Fusions look in this shopstyle.com fashion shot!! And let the award season begin! Last night the 2013 American Music Awards was the perfect combination of rockers, rappers, and beautiful actors. Avatar actress, Zoe Saldana, wowed us in a leather and lace dress, but kept her hair simple and shiny. Her stylist, Aviva Perea, blow dried Saldana’s hair sleek and straight with a large Spornette mixed-bristle brush. America has voted, and we approve! Click here for the entire post.
Whitney, the video designer for Birchbox.com, recently chopped five inches off her gorgeous blonde hair. One the exhilaration of the new look faded, she found herself searching for fresh looks and styles for her bob. Enter Spornette’s Porcupine Rounder, the G-36XL. Actually, just watch the video and you’ll see how the G-36XL’s combination of porcupine and nylon bristles added volume at the root and gave Whitney’s hair lift and shape.
Spornette’s newest family member is the Ion Fusion. There are many great things about this new line, but right off the bat, I judged the nine brushes by their color. What does that say about me? What does it say about Spornette’s color schemes?
The Ion Fusion brushes come in two displays. One display is all about the basics, a paddle, a cushion, and a vent. The other display holds three sizes of rounders. These are unique because they have the same ‘one-piece’ model as Spornette’s Smooth Operators, where the barrel and handle are constructed as one piece, so that hair does not get caught. The second special part of these ceramic rounders is the crimped bristles. Now your hair won’t get stuck AND you can say goodbye to static.
I have to admit before I knew any of these new qualifications, it was the color scheme of brown and green that won me over. I think metallic brown and mint green might be more descriptive names. Either way, I love the crisp color combo. Maybe it’s because we released them in the fall, and I love fall shades, or maybe it’s because we’ve never used these colors together that caught my eye. What are your thoughts?
Can you believe that November is half over? If you haven’t started thinking about the holidays, you better start soon. One thing you don’t have to stress about is your hair. Watch this video from birchbox.com, featuring In Style’s beauty director, Kahlana Barfield, to find out how a simple bun can turn into an elegant holiday updo. You’ll need Spornette’s Little Wonder brush to create the volume! Now you have no excuse for boring flat hair this holiday season.
Like any proud parent, we love our newest addition, the Ion Fusion line, and we can’t wait to share it with the world! The holiday issue of Beauty Launchpad features the Rounder family, in it’s Shape Shifters piece. The ceramic rounders come in three sizes and have a seam-less one piece handle, so you never have to worry about getting your hair stuck between the barrel and the handle. The bristles are crimped which means they hold better than regular nylon. The brushes also come in Style display which includes a Paddle, Vent, and Cushion. Won’t you help us with welcoming this new line?
